This room was an addition to the original kitchen, most likely added before 1900. Most of it was probably a covered porch, judging by the construction in the attic. The door with the curtain across it goes into a closet. Originally the closet was a little landing with two steps that went out to the backyard. The outside door is still in place and can be seen inside the laundry room. But inside the closet it was boarded over and sheetrocked. Under this room is a dirt cellar that contains the hot water heater and the furnace. The cellar is accessible through the garage. When you are down there you can see the difference in the floor boards used in the closet when they took out the steps. Some of them have old kitchen wallpaper on them.
This room also had a long window on the wall the bed is against. The window is still inside the wall. The garage was added to the house in the 1920s and so they boarded the window and wallpapered over it. You can still see the window from inside the garage.
There was a 8'x8' foot bookshelf built into the wall in the 1940s. We took the bookshelf down to move it into the office. This allowed us to turn this room back into a first floor bedroom.
