Outside of the House - Adding a Carport

When we bought the house, the carport was about to fall down. It was rotten and badly eaten by termites. The garage had a single door on it and in the past people have parked inside. But without a  carbon monoxide barrier between it and the house it wasn't safe. We took the garage door off and added a regular exterior door and the window we salvaged from remodeling the kitchen.

The roof line was done incorrectly and in all the years since the garage was added to the old guest room building, it has leaked. We had the roofline extended over the peak of the garage for proper rain runoff. They finished the fronts with scalloped wood shingles.

The carport is actually freestanding because of the city ordinance preventing additions made to historic houses. 

We had a new cement driveway put in. It cracked, everywhere. The cement guys said it was the contractor and the contractor said they gave him bad cement. And then they left, never to be heard from again. So I guess since the house is nearly 130 years it deserves a few crinkles.

New Carport, Next to the Cedar Tree we almost Killed

Ok, We moved to Oregon. Oregon. Rain. Yeah, that Oregon. We arrived in May. By the first of October it had only rained twice. That huge cedar tree in front nearly died because we didn't think to water it. It is huge. How is it possible that a tree that big relies on sprinklers?  One day it looked droopy and two days later chunks of it were turning rust colored. Oh great, we have been here 5 months and we've killed a hundred year old tree. I didn't see the trees on the mountain turning rust, what's up with that?
