1st Floor - Laundry Room

It was fortunate that we saw this room last. I am sure our agent planned it that way. It was gross. Years of dirt, cobwebs and junk. And did I mention the overwhelming smell of cats? Apparently they weren't allowed to go outside. You had to hold your nose to go in there.

Seriously? It looked like a set from a Horror Film

7 Tubes of Painters Caulk, 3 coats of Paint and hours Scraping Old Paint off the Windows
We put the old kitchen cabinets up and made counter tops out of ash plywood. I stained it with Minwax and painted it with a few coats of poly. Mike scrubbed all of the old paint out of the 1930s wash basin. He also painted the outside of it with appliance paint. It is a cool piece, it has a two door front storage space.

We had to have the back left corner of the laundry room jacked up. After they poured new concrete, they removed all the wood under the windows and replaced the wall the door is in. The wood beams supporting the roof got support brackets.  The little bathroom window was repaired so that it opened and the broken glass replaced. The electrical was updated, though I kept the 1960s light fixture. I put in vinyl flooring and some area rugs.

This was the original backdoor porch off of the kitchen. It was sloped for rain runoff. We took the whole porch out and built a new level floor. Under the floor boards were magazine covers and a medical pamphlet from 1892.

Work in progress

When the last owner told us the bathroom wasn't connected to the sewer, we decided to take everything out and rebuild it as a pantry. They pulled up the floor and found that there was nothing wrong with the plumbing and it did go to the sewer. So out with the pantry and back in with a powder room. Because we had taken out the sink that was just outside the bathroom door we were looking for a sink solution. The contractor said if I could find a really little sink, he could build it into the wall. I found a mini sink. They were able to mount it in wall. They built a bump out on the laundry room wall. When I recycled the cabinets, I cut the back side of one to slide over the bump.

The bathroom door was in the garage. I stripped it and glued some of the panels. Painted it with white enamel.

The bathroom door back in place.

Original door lock, but a replacement knob.
